Please join Mike Wise for three days of on-location instruction at his beautiful home studio on Whidbey Island minutes from the town of Coupeville. Mike is known for his gorgeous lake and lily pond scenes and will teach his students methods and techniques for creating beautiful compositions containing floating water lilies, underwater logs and rocks, ripples, and reflections of sky.Throughout this three-day workshop, students will explore how to create vivid still water lake scenes from start to finish. Mike will demonstrate how to compose a scene with reflection, depth, underwater and surface elements, movement, light and texture. Students will be taught a multi-layered approach from block-in to finish, using techniques such as glazing, dry brushing, palette knife, impasto, scumbling, and the multitude of tools to achieve a three-dimensional feel in a painting. Mike will cover all aspects of picture-making from drawing to values, edges, color mixing, mark-making, color temperature, and brush/tool selection. Emphasis will be placed on reflections and transparency of water. Subject matter will be landscapes.
