Artworks featured artists for February are glass artist, Morgan Bell and oil/encaustics/mosaic artist, Christine Crowell.
Morgan Bell has been creating art glass for over 20 years, specializing in vessels, sculptures, wall hangings, garden art, and jewelry. She views glass as a medium that embodies ephemerality and solidity, reflecting the spirit’s emotional expression. Her latest glass wall sculpture, Heart and Soul Nebula, is a deeply inspired piece. She explains: “The Heart and Soul Nebula is a vast star-forming region in the constellation Cassiopeia, approximately 7500 light years from Earth. The meditating Buddha figure is symbolic of peace, compassion and the search for enlightenment. The combination of the meditating Buddha figure and the Heart and Soul Nebula symbolizes enlightenment through the birthing of stars.”
Christine Crowell is a retired attorney who paints in encaustics, oils, and pastels and creates vibrant glass mosaics. Primarily self-taught, she has attended classes with local artists and finds inspiration in the scenic beauty of Whidbey Island. Christine says, “Creating soothes my soul. I cope with stress through various creative projects and love experimenting with different mediums.”
Christine shares a special fondness for her painting, “Sandpipers,” stating, “I loved chasing sandpipers as a child, and while I no longer chase them, they still make me laugh. I adore the goofy, joyful mood of the painting.”
