Sandy explains her artistic process …

I created my first fine art textile wall sculpture in 2015, using repurposed materials which I added to my own private stash of exotic textiles collected over many years. My sculptures are nature-based, evoking the changing of seasons and natural environments.  They begin with the “bones” – driftwood and jute for the frame. These elements set the tone for the entire piece. From there the free-style weave will many times take on a life of its own, as I choose colors and variations that speak to me in the moment.  Other times materials are sorted in a more intentional fashion and arranged in patterns.  The end result is one that evokes an individual’s memories and emotions, much like an abstract painting.
