This class covers metalsmithing basics for jewelry making: creating and transferring a design to sheet metal, sawing and piercing, hammering, texturing, stamping, chain making, cold connections and riveting. We will explore the pliant characteristics of non-ferrous metals including doming, forging and forming a dimensional shape, as well as surface color such as patina and heat treatment. We will be working with copper, brass and nickel. Using the beautiful surroundings of Whidbey Island as inspiration, we will spend time studying natural forms of plant and animal species to use as a springboard for our designs. Do bring a journal to document your environment! All levels welcomeInstructor Bio: Trish Ramsay currently teaches Drawing and Art Foundations at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. She was Assistant Professor of Metals/Jewelry at Columbus State University 2002-2008. Her art practice spans wearable works to pieces for the wall.
