Garry Oak Gallery Artist of the Month: Carolyn Askew
December 1 @ 10:30 am - December 31 @ 5:00 pm
Event Navigation
Carolyn is a new resident of Whidbey Island, having relocated from Idaho in 2023 and has fallen in love with Whidbey and the incredible beauty here. She has always dabbled in art, from stained glass to acrylics, but became fascinated by what was possible with colored pencil after being inspired by Richard Drayton and Bonny Snowden. When COVID hit, she found herself with plenty of time and decided to really apply herself and see what she could create. Her deep love of animals found its way onto her drawing board and she loves creating realistic portraits of beloved pets as well as some wildlife. While colored pencil is a fairly time-consuming medium, Carolyn really enjoys the level of detail it can capture, and finds that clients are thrilled at how closely the finished piece reflects their pet. She has done numerous memorial commissions and loves being able to capture the spirit of a pet that was such a beloved family member.
