Garry Oak Gallery June Featured Artist- Carol Rhodes

Carol’s life as an artist began as soon as she could hold a crayon. She was always drawing on paper, cardboard, and condensed windows. She was adopted by people who had some artistic talent, and they gave her every opportunity, lesson, and advantage they could afford.
Drawing, painting and sculpture were her earliest mediums. She attended the University of Cincinnati and majored in fashion design and then studied painting and pottery in Wittenburg. She received a dual degree in Fine Arts and English from the University of Dayton.
She exhibited her paintings in a gallery in San Francisco and made stained glass for several years in Los Angeles and Seattle before she started her family. Once she moved to Washington, she made the decision to focus on pottery. She also does mosaics and had the idea of making whimsical gnomes since they became popular.
She started making seasonal notecards. She finds many ways to decorate, paint, print, and layer cards. Her latest artistic endeavor is seasonal ornaments. Her work is in an artist co-op in Langley and a gallery in La Conner. She is a member of the Whidbey Island Allied Artist organization. She continues to be inspired by the beautiful surroundings and nature found on the island.
