JOHN GUNNIN – ART HISTORY

John Gunnin Presents “Understanding Contemporary Art”

A Visual Delight. Awarded Teacher of the Year (2 times) and Art Educator of the Year in Orange County CA, John Gunnin presents a selection of Contemporary Art and artists.

We can all benefit by understanding Contemporary Art a little better. Join us for John’s presentation on WICA’s main screen from 11:00 AM till Noon, and then you’re invited to extend the conversation over a light lunch next door at the Learning Lab.

We’d like to know more about today’s art. And, we’d like to know more about what today’s artists are trying to say.

For 40 years John Gunnin was always a student favorite… sometimes it’s simply a pleasure just to be in the room with a very good teacher. But mainly, teachers give insight. We feel as if a veil is lifted, and we now understand much better what we had possibly dismissed before as too complex or strange. We see better. We develop a greater appreciation.

Contemporary Art is a broad and vast category and it’s not often we have an award-winning guide to this universe of today’s art and artists.

John played an important role in shifting Eurocentric curriculum to a World perspective. He has published many articles on Contemporary Art and is considered a ‘Teacher’s Teacher,’ bringing Advanced Placement (AP) curriculum, techniques, testing, and aids to AP art teachers everywhere.

More importantly, he has the talent and expertise to captivate and develop young artistic talent; informing, inspiring, and guiding them to take-off on their own paths, as many of his students have.

He is a Director of the William Gillespie Foundation. He has served as a trustee for the Laguna Art Museum and is currently on the Board of the Orange County Museum of Art in Southern California.

He lives in Langley with his wife Penelope and their mini schnauzer ‘Paisley.’
