July at Artworks Gallery: Jim Short and Sarah Silverman-Pucci

July 1 @ 11:00 am - July 31 @ 5:00 pm

thank you to the community for all their support there will be a reopening celebration on July 6th, the day of Langley’s First Saturday Art Walk. From 11:00-5:00 we will feature artist demonstrations in the courtyard and serve celebratory cake. During Art Walk, there will be a free drawing for three handwoven gift baskets filled with art, each valued at $300. Entries for the baskets are available in the gallery anytime until July 6th at 5:30.

Featured artists for July are Jim Short and Sarah Silverman-Pucci

Jim Short’s love for wood is apparent. He has worked with wood his entire life, first as a carpenter, and now as a skilled woodturner. Every piece he creates is sourced from Whidbey Island. Jim shares his philosophy: “Trees are an elemental part of human history and we are surrounded by their utility. Locally they mark a time and place while preserving a history of sun and rain. When I came across the wood lathe twenty-five years ago, I was attracted by the idea of preserving something of the trees that were headed for the landfill or stove.”

Sarah Silverman-Pucci is a Seattle native who earned her bachelor’s degree in Illustration, and a further certification in Scientific Illustration from the University of Washington. Her love for drawing plants and animals is evident in all of her work. Her watercolors are vibrant and detailed, capturing the beauty and humor in nature.  Currently she is showing paintings from her exceptional Ecosystem Series.
