Nuno Felt Garment: Jacket, Vest or Tunic with Marjolaine Arsenault

Join Marjolaine in a 5-day class to create her signature light weight seamless jacket, vest or tunic. You also have the option to make a bolero, a shorter jacket. Her fascination for the limitless possibilities of making nuno felt seamless garments led her to playful creations. Clothing should be fun to wear! During this workshop you will explore the technique of nuno felt. You will learn various wool layouts to create a light and flowing garment.

  • Explore colors, texture, composition and design
  • Create a very lightweight jacket that will be the inspiration for future garments
  • Learn to make your own pattern/resist
  • Discover various wool layouts to create different looks
  • Create a stained glass effect, allowing windows of silk to show through
  • Paint with silk hankies and silk roving on wool

SKILL LEVEL: This workshop is suited for intermediate to advanced nuno felt makers and requires standing most of the day.

Materials:

  • Silk fabric: 5 yards of 45” to 55” habotai or chiffon (5-6 momme max.)
  • 16 oz merino roving top, 19 to 22 micron. Please do not mix your wool with other fibers. Keep it all the same & same micron
  • 6 oz silk fiber, silk hankies, bamboo or tencel fibers etc., for embellishment
  • 64” x 82” tulle/netting/mosquito screen, permeable mesh to cover and wet fiber during construction
  • Olive oil soap or 7th Generation dish soap
  • 60” pool noodle of 1.5”
  • Scissors
  • 6 ties (old nylon stocking is perfect)
  • A measuring tape and calculator (plus note book)
  • 60” x 92” bubble wrap for rolling (small-soft bubble type sold for shipping)
  • Additional 60” x 82” bubble wrap for pattern/resist making
  • Pkg of .7 mil or 1 mil painters drop cloth style plastic
  • 1 dish pan
  • 1 small bucket with ballbrause or sponge for wetting
  • 2 large towels
  • Table risers – You can purchase bed risers (check if studio already have them)
  • Small spray bottle

Marjolaine will have additional silk fabric and silk fibers available to purchase at the workshop
