Special Screening of Tár at The Clyde for Saratoga Orchestra

Whidbey’s Saratoga Orchestra presents our first “pop-up” fundraiser! Your support will bolster two community treasures—The Clyde Theatre and the island’s renowned professional musicians.

On March 7, 8, and 9 (at 7:30 PM) there will be special showings of Tár, the highly acclaimed film starring Cate Blanchett as the fictional Lydia Tár. An eminent conductor/composer, Lydia has achieved the position of first female director of the Berlin Philharmonic. The film follows her struggles in the male-dominated classical music industry—ultimately revealing the corrosive nature of pride and power (earning the film an R-rating). Cate Blanchett, recently named Best Actress by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, is a strong contender for the 2022 Best Actress Oscar.You may already have seen Tár and want to see it again to understand it better; or you may have read about it and want to see it before the Academy Awards ceremony on March 12.

Dr. Anna Edwards, Music Director of Whidbey’s Saratoga Orchestra, will give a short welcoming talk before the showings. Recognized as a leader for the promotion of musical diversity in symphonic orchestral music, Anna, in her dissertation “Gender and the Symphonic Conductor,” examines nurturing female leadership in instrumental music.

2. Visit with a Saratoga Orchestra representative at one of the showings to make a donation.
3. Purchase a regular admission ticket at the Clyde box office.
