Trisha Ramsey- Sculptural Lighting

July 19 @ 9:00 am - July 21 @ 4:00 pm

| $475

Using flexible materials, we will explore how line, pattern, space, light and shadow work together in a sculptural lighted form. We will use reed, wire, washi kozo (Japanese mulberry paper), as well as found objects and natural wood and fibers we gather, as our materials. Your sculpture will take shape as either a hanging or table lamp. All skill levels welcome and encouraged.

My work explores the push and pull of spatial, gestural and relational states of being. I choose pliant materials such as metal, wax, felt and textile, to create sculptural installations or to capture materials in wax on wood panels. While doing research in Japan, I was enamored with the evocative simplicity of Japanese textile design of the late Shōwa Era (1926-1989). These textiles have influenced my wall works and installations, particularly with respect to the limited depth of field and treatment of space I found in Japanese dyed and stenciled silks. Themes that circulate in my works are metaphors to my daily life and the microcosmic theater of the body: symbiosis, entanglement, flexibility and gratitude.
