Whidbey Art Gallery August 2022
Langley’s first Saturday Art Walk is coming up on August 6 from 5-7. Stop in and meet our guest and featured artists and enjoy some light refreshments. The gallery has something for everyone, from photographs, pottery, jewelry to encaustic work, ceramics, calligraphy, paintings, prints, collage, wrapped rocks and so much more. Whidbey Art Gallery in Langley is constantly changing with new work and many of the artists will attend the art walk, so this is your chance to meet them, talk about their work and even ask questions.
Whidbey Art Gallery is pleased to welcome Mason Andrews as our guest artist for August. The array of oil paintings he will show represents his exploration of the medium. He feels that oil paint is a flexible, slow drying medium that gives him the ability to adjust and change the work over time. He strives to paint work that reflects diversity, complexity, and evolution in the world around us.
Our featured artist is watercolorist, Margaret Tollefson. She usually paints on paper but will be featuring work done on board. She utilized watercolor ground, a substrate that allows watercolor paint to be applied to any surface. This allows for a textured look that is typically not seen in watercolor. She also painted one of the Adirondack chairs for Whidbey Island Nourishes. The chair in near the entryway of the gallery and is named ‘Snack Time’. It features one of Langley’s famous bunnies and her family. The online auction is live as of August 1st. Check it out and make a bid on one of the chairs to support this great organization. https://www.chairity-trail.com
Many artists in the gallery are donating proceeds from the sale of some of their pieces to charities supporting Ukraine, such as World Central Kitchen and UNICEF. You will find small cards near the work indicating participation.
We hope to see you in the gallery soon. If you have friends or family visiting, the gallery is a great place to find art made on Whidbey Island by local artists.
